Apple Interested in Following Facebook to Make Digital Currency?

Apple Inc. has transformed into one of the big players in mobile payments since releasing Apple Pay on the iPhone in 2014. Last month Apple's penetration deepened after the launch of Apple Card. Then whether Apple will develop payment services to digital money? Apple Pay Vice President Jennifer Bailey said the company was "watching" cryptocurrency, but customers could not expect anything in the near future.

"We think this is interesting," Jennifer Bailey said in an interview with CNN International, Friday (06/09/2019). "We think digital money has attractive long-term potential but our main focus is now on what consumers are using today."

This is Apple's first time expressing interest in the digital eye. Apple itself does not allow cryptocurrency mining on the App Store platform, Apple Cards cannot be used to buy cryptocurrency but cryptocurrency wallet applications and exchange exchanges such as Coinbase are available on the App store. When asked what payment solutions and applications Apple is watching, Jennifer Bailey insisted on a cryptocurrency and QR code-based payment system.

"If you look at QR code payment solutions, if you see the long-term potential of cryptocurrency, I think you will continue to see that change from time to time," he said.

Facebook became the first technology giant to announce that it would make digital money, which was named Libra. It is planned that this digital money will be issued no later than semester I-2020. Libra is managed by the non-profit organization Libra Association, based in Geneva, Switzerland. But many regulators reject the presence of Libra. The reason, from the user side, Libra has a systemic impact that could disrupt the global financial system.
